If you husband likes Peterson, he will likely like how these smoke.
Bowl inside diameter is 3/4 inch. You might check your husband's
Petersons and see how that compares. Do allow for carbon cake
in the pipes that have been well smoked.

Are they "system pipes" and do they
ever have the "P lip"?

Fishtail only. I do not know whether they are a system pipe.
I suspect they are not, as the system pipe would normally have
the P-Lip.
