I agree with all that is written- but as I only have 4 or 5 tins open
at any given time, I have found it convenient to toss my tins into a
rubbermaid storage box with a cigar humidifying element in it. I keep
the relative humidity inside at about 50- 60%. The tobacco stays in
their original tins, lids on, and they don't dry out at all.
I suppose you could argue that with 4 or 5 tins open, I could just
keep them in a cardboard box and have the same result, but I had an
extra rubbermaid container on hand and an extra credo so I put them
together for fun. Even if the tin drops to last place in my rotation
and is kept there for 6 or 7 months, the tobacco is still moist enough
and I don't detect any plastic effect. Also, SWMBO doesn't touch with
my contraption because it looks "serious".
If I wanted to store some opened tobacco longer, I would definitely go
with glass.

I know about glass Mason/Ball jars for tobacco cellaring. Rubbermaid
makes a Small screw on top plastic container which they claim is
airtight. I wonder how good these containers are for cellaring smaller
amounts of tobacco.
