It was so hard, so very damned hard, to watch those beautiful brown
eyes looking at me as the fluids flowed into her vein and those soft
wonderful eyes closed for the last time.
If you are a "dog person you understand the feelings. She will live
in our hearts forever. Our new golden puppy, now almost a year old
helps us cope with the loss and the tears will abate as the love for
the new dog grows.
Why does a 75 year old man cry for a dog? Because he has to find some
way to cope with the loss.
Damn it is hard, it really is....
I feel for you, Neil. We put down our 11 Year Old Jack Russel (Holly)
a few weeks ago. While she was not in seriously degrading health, she
had a serious problem with a leaky bladder, as well as having
developed a very bad temperment (bit both kids, the wife, and
viciously attacked the new kitten).
I'll always remember her, as up until a year or so ago she was about
the sweetest little thing.
I'll say this, you're a better man than I am. There's no way I could
be in the room when the job is done. It's bad enough to have taken
her there and waited in the waiting room.
