AD/ANN: Great Stanwells and Cool Estates, as The Piperack Celebrates 10 Years!

Hello ASP!

Before I get to this week's update, I'd like to announce that this month,
The Piperack has reached a milestone: 10 years of buying and selling great
pipes online, meeting great customers and making new friends in this
wonderful hobby! It was February 1999 when our website first came online; at
that time, I ran the business out of my basement, and we were lucky to have
20 or 25 new pipes a month. How times have changed!

In celebration, over the next few months we will occasionally be offering
some special promotions, offers, discounts and other goodies to you, our
friends and customers. We're working with our suppliers to bring in new and
exciting lines, to offer larger selections and to get these pieces to you at
lower prices than ever before. So keep your eyes peeled - our ten year
anniversary is a special event, and we hope you enjoy what we'll be offering
in the months to come!

Okay, now on to the update! Please direct your browser to the following URL

This week, The Piperack is pleased to now offer unsmoked Stanwells as we
round out our pipe offerings. Stanwell has always been one of the best
values in pipes. Affordable prices and expertly cured briar: If you want a
great smoking pipe, a Stanwell will never let you down. The Piperack is
proud to now be an official Stanwell dealer; we feel that, for the money,
there isn't a better pipe on the market today. This week, we have a
selection of 14 new pieces. There are six great sandblast Zebranos - each
with a smart looking Zebrano wood insert on the stem or shank - as well as a
nice group of smooth Colonials and Legends. Check out the bamboo billiard -
it's a lovely little piece and sure to be a great addition to your
collection!

In estate pipes this week, the "Piperack Pick" would have to go to the
original "Ascorti-Radice" Caminetto Business. Caminetto was founded in the
1968 by Pepino Ascorti and Luigi Radice, both of whom were trained at the
famous Castello factory in Cantu, Italy. Caminetto quickly gained a
worldwide reputation for excellent smoking qualities, as well as artistic
and innovative Italian designs. In 1980, Ascorti and Radice parted ways to
form their own respective companies, but the mystique of the original
Caminetto pipe lives on today. Early production Caminetto pieces bearing the
"Ascorti/Radice" stamp are the most desirable and certainly the most
collectible of all Caminetto pipes, so when you see one, such as the piece
featured here, grab it quick! The particular shape is a 126 Billiard with a
fancy swirled acyrlic floc and matching saddle stem. This pipe is near-mint,
and has the original brown-and-gold swirled fancy-saddle stem, sharp
stampings and super-clean bowl. Finding early pieces in such great condition
can prove difficult, so snag this one while you can! Rated 9.75 out of 10,
this one even still has most of the gold flake in the moustache. You'd be
hard-pressed to find another quite like this. I expect this one will go
fast, so take a look! Also from Italy, there is a super-nice Castello
Trademark billiard in a rich burgundy finish, as well as a near-mint Mastro
De Paja ringblast with superb graining. Prefer English, or maybe a little
Irish? Well, this week there are a pair of Dunhills, including an
interesting 1930's patent Root with a patent number I've never come across,
as well as a modern Root 5203 that is a dead-ringer for an old LBS saddle.
Also, check out the three Petersons; there is a Hallmarked 1979 Mark Twain
(supposedly the first year of production of this series), a bargain
sandblast silver spigot, and a cool smooth Sherlock Holmes "Rathbone" - a
shape you just don't see all that often. Miss your college days? You might
want to take a look at the Ehrlich ringblasted Canadian (they're located
just down the street from Harvard), while Denmark brings us a nice meaty
Bjarne smooth bent egg.

Don't miss the 2008 Ashton Oldchurch, or the fantastic grain on the unsmoked
Stanwell plateaux-topped Legend! Next update comes February 20th with more
great pipes from around the world!
