Made the 3 hr drive from Baltimore in 1 hr & 45 mins. Parked at the.
Holiday Inn and went in to Nirvirna land.
The FIRST person I met coming in was the nortorious Rad Davis and he
was in fine form!! Started circling the room. The thing that always
amazes me is how the Tarlers &Co. not only remember yout name but also
your circumstances from last yr. I got there 30 mins. before they
closed down, 3 hr traffic jam on 301. Came 95 this yr. Curcumvented
the room after greeting C&D and a gentleman GAVE me a lb can of
Spilman.!!!! Thought I was dreaming. I just saw it being sold at
another table for $22.Hope it's not a bad batch. Went back to the
Tarler again after 15 minutes, tried some Va. Gentleman and was off
again, looking at pipes. Came back to the Tarler's,by this time they
were in stiches laughing at me. Bought some,Oriental Silk 8 oz. Va.
Gentleman, Orion's Arrow, Guilford Courthouse, Blockade Runner, After
Hours Flake, Sunday Picnic, Haunted Bookshop, Old Joe Krantz, they
were out of Briar Fox, but Kevin or Keith ran to Peter H's table &
grabbed a tin for me. Filled a pipe w/ the Organic Va. Blend and had
them throw a can of that in the bag. Went out to my car to put that
bag in the trunk.
Came back and Premal at Smoker's Haven told me they were out of
Our Best Blend, DAMN!! Again???
They convinced me to try the Cognac which is Best Blend flavored w/
cognac. It tastes like an english smells like an aromatic. That's
their quote. haven't opened it yet.
Went to Lawdog's table to chat with him. Once again he called me by
name and inquired about the Brebbia I got last yr. I can't remember
what happened yesterday!!.
Dropped by John Eel's table where there was a crowd and he was holding
court like the Master he is. Looked at some pipes he had out,
thousands and thousands all over the place. Started walking and the
people at the C&D table started laughing again. I told Ted he must
have a hook in me drawing me to the table. I remarked to Kris how the
Organic Va didn't bite at all and asked how could they blend biteless
Va.s?? He pointed to the banner hanging up that said "Enjoy the Magic
of Cornel and Diehl" Amen to that!!
Went walking again looking at my fav. pipes..petersons. Didn't see any
that pulled me in. Then BINGO!! Gentleman who shall remain nameless
had a Rusticated Sherlock Holmes System Bent Dublin with a Mark Twain
Peterson Stem in it!!! And a huge Smooth System Bent Dublin Peterson
with a Pioneer Stem !! The P was on the front of the stem and upside
down. I bought both, I hope he didn't think he was getting over on me.
I can get replacement stems. Even tough I might keep that Twain Stem
in that Holmes System. I like that gap.
Went BACK to the Tarler Clan and bought some Key Largo and Maltese
Falcon, said my goodbyes and headed to the door. Spied a Savinelli
bent Peterson -like System that John Eels sold me for a ridiculosly
low price and I was out of ther 15 mins before closing. Had a
fantaboulous time from 1:00 to 4:55. Wanted to stay for Sunday but I
had a gig. Will be there next yr. Good Lord willing. By that time I
might? be out of C&D tobacco.
Pardon the length but I had such a great time I didn't even eat>
