The BBQ lighter works really well if there is no breeze and I imagine it would be good for a longer pipe. But 99% of the time I'm using a bic. I personally like the taste of the bic over the taste of the zippo. I like matches as well. I have never tried the zippo pipe lighter thought.
The Frank torch method works well to if your a careful. Using a torch lighter, you quickly touch the torch to the tobacco trying to direct the flame as straight as possible into the bowl, then pull away quickly. Repeat until you have an even light. It might take a few lights, but this method has the least contact of flame to bowl. The problem I have found is if your torch goes out it blows loose burning tobacco all over you.

OK, I've heard everything from "only use matches" to "only use the.
Zippo pipe lighter" to butane is the best. Here's the question:
What's the best lighting mechanism to use so's not to torch the edges
of my pipe? What's the one that doesn't leave a taste of fuel?
What's the easiest fire to use when outside?
I've probably left a few instances out but this will do for a start.
