probably nothin' will work, but thanks. Apparently, NY State has
gotten together with the ISP providers (in my case, RoadRunner with
Time/Warner) to block ALL "newsgroups", with anything starting with
"alt." at the head of the list. This from RoadRunner techie I talked
to yesterday about this. A frequent ASP chatter got me thru most of
the steps for "Cox"; with two steps to go, popup sez something about
"filter" and things came to a screeching halt. So, apparently NO
"newsreaders" can be installed. With google's sometimes irritating
brain farts....will stick with it for now. (Somebody else even
attempted "date.mas" (think that's what it's called).....same results..
Yer hearts are all in the right places, thanx again, but this
time....then nannies again!

You should be able to motzarella.org.  Go to their website and follow
the steps.

Please configure your newsreader to access
news.motzarella.org
The port number is 119. This is the standard port number for news servers and should be set as a default in your client. You also have to configure your client to use the userid and password you will soon receive by email.
If you are only able to select groups in the
motzarella.*
and posenet.*
hierarchies, your news client has connected to the server without sending the userid and password. Please refer to your newsreader's documentation for information on how to configure server access with authentication or check the FAQ
