Sadly enough, as I am more often than not reminded whilst reading, it
just isn't, and the sole focus lies on whatever relates to the USA.
I am quite certain, for instance, that I will have to take a break
from reading it once the upcoming presidential elections will take
place.
Yes, I am the same - I don't come here to read politics and the
unmoderated nature encourages too much trolling (see the resident
anti- tobacco trolls).
The trolls don't bother me at all, but that's because I have good
filters, which I'm using more and more often to get rid of everything
else I don't care to read in here.
I guess I will always be one of those stuffy people who considers
politics and religion to be not topics of polite conversation... ;)
I'm "stuffy" in the sense that I don't care for that kind of
conversation *here.* However, I'm not even interested in discussing the
whole thing, as it will invariably instigate another meta-discussion, of
which the result is fixed, anbd laid out in four different options:
- The internet/usenet is free.
- As a result of that, ASP is unmoderated and everything should be
discussed here that would be of interest to the members, even if it
means going off-topic.
- ASP is what it is.
- You don't have to read it if you don't like it.
I've drawn my own conclusions, and have come to the constatation that
http://pipelore.net/ , for me, is much more rewarding and that the
better part of my P&T discussions and information comes through
emailing.
However, as you can see, I am still here. The more intelligent reader
would have noticed that already, but I like to point out the obvious to
those who aren't as perceptive. Anyway, my presence here at this point
should tell you something, at least.
FWIW,
Well said. I too took a hiatus from pipes and tobacco reading/discussion for
a while. I lost interest, the topics seemed to cycle around to the same old
things, and the last presidential election was enough to get me out.
I've grown since then, matured into a different kind of pipesmoker. Though I
don't always contribute as much as I'd like, I find that visiting different
forums, reading, and only contributing when I feel I can help a topic, is
much more rewarding...
And it keeps me in the loop so that when I talk to people like yourselves, I
remember the friends that made all these pipe forums fun so long ago.
All the best,
Jeff
