I have a Dell Demension 8200 with XP Home Edition with only (1) game
which was added several months ago. I have over 20 gigs free space on
my hard drive so storage isn't an issue. I had posted earlier that my
computer acted as if it had a virus and was running slow and that I
couldn't do a System Restore. After exhausting all the possibilities
and suggestions I was finally able to do a System Restore in the 'Safe
Mode'. However My Norton Antivirus would not enable. So I decided to
uninstall it and re-install it which is what I did and that 'seemed'
to correct the problems it was having. However whenever I try to go to
a web page my Norton Firewall gives me the following message:
Nortion Personal Firewall
Program Alert
Low Risk
IEXPLORE.EXE is attempting to access the Internet. This program has
been modified since it was last used.
Program: IEXPLORE.EXE
Path: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\
Date/Time:
Remote Address: xxx.xx.xxx.xx:http (80)
It gives me the option of allow always(recommended) which is usually
what I click but it keeps coming back. I don't remember changing any
settings and would appreciate it if anyone could help me resolve this
so that my Norton Firewall will stop these pop-up these alert
messages.
Thanks
Robert
My advice would be to get rid of Norton altogether, it hogs disk space
and is generally ineffective-get NOD32 instead, it's costly but it'll
make your computer virtually impregnable without all the hassles. Or
AVG, I hear that's good too. Cheers,
Peter.
I can second the NOD32 recommendation. It's what I sell my customers.
It has a quick scan, hourly updates, and the smallest footprint of any
of the major antivirus companies. We took Symantec (Norton) off a
server in a medical facility and installed NOD32. NOD32 immediately
found malware that Symantec missed.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their good suggestions. I
uninstalled the Norton Antivirus, and Firewall. Then downloaded and
installed AVG, and ran a scan afterwards with no viruses found. then I
downloaded Comodo. Afterwards when trying to go online fir the first
time, Comodo asked if I wanted to allow MSN which I did, then it asked
if I wanted to allow svchost.exe which I also did. Then it came back
with LU somehting and since I had never seen this one before I thought
I would play it safe and denied it but saved my choices in Comodo just
in case. I do notice that the system is faster and more responsive. In
addition, I also have A-squared and Spybot so seems things are back to
normal, well actually better. Any further suggestions?
Thanks guys,
Robert
