Just bought a new HP with Windows VISTA. It's great. But, be prepared to
download a lot of drivers for a lot of software and external devices if you
are needing to use them.

I have spent 2 days tryign to hook everything back up and get it working.
Many a bowls enjoyed while doing this of course. :-)

If I live another 100 years, I will never install another M$ operating
system on any computer that I own. Vista is junk, and hopefully it will
be the opening that the Linux and Mac communities need to crush M$'
marketplace superiority.

I spend time in a couple of Linux newsgroups, and since the release of
Vista, there have been more people trying Linux than I can remember at any
other time.

I understand Vista is junk, and I always wonder why they release
Operating Systems that don't perform well. This actually has raised a
question mark in my mind recently because although my present computer
(Dell Demension 8200 with a Pentium 4, running XP) still performs
well, but I will have to replace it at some point in the next few
years I think and I don't think I want to be using Vista.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Linux primarily used by programmers
to write programs and isn't an Operating System per se? I don't know
much about Mac products except that they are somewhat geared for
graphic desgn and the like and are more expensive than say Dell
computers. I also realize that the Mac users have been at odds with
the rest of the computer industry almost since it's inception.

What I'm looking for is a similar replacement for what I have. An OS
that's easy to use without dowloading everything I need, and that's
fast and efficient. That's one of the reasons why I didn't go with
Firefox because you have to download everything you need. Most people
don't want to do that, myself included.
