Depending on the shape, the finish, the price, and most importantly, the
timing needed for payment, I might be interested.

After reading the recent threads on Castello and seeing the on going ASPof
Zippo project I thought about the possibility of custom making a 2007 ASP
Castello Pipe if there is enough interest. This would be a limited issue
30 to 50 pipes, we'd need at least 30 to have the factory accept theproject
and I don't think they would accept a run larger than say 50+/- pipes. Ito
have talked to the Castello factory in Italy and they are willing to
consider the project.
The shape would have to be a standard Castello shape - no not an 84
Hawkbill, I've had those on back order for 10 years - and "stamping" could
be as basic as ASP 2007 stamped in the wood (block letters at no charge)
a deep engraved (cast) heavy silver band like the "P&T Pipe" with the ASPbe
Logo and 2007. The deep cast band would add $100+/- to the cost of each
pipe but would really look nice. Finishes would be a mixture of what the
wood gave up, but could be limited to say Carved Sea Rock, Basic smooth
(Trademark or "castello" fixed grain) and high grade smooth (Collection,
probably not Fiammata, SG or BE full coverage).
The shape will be up to ASP, but keep in mind that a "cast band" needs to
a round ring per se so that would limit the shape to a billiard type orkeep
classic bent. Since a block stamp in the wood could be used on just about
any shape, that option would open up the available shapes. Please also
in mind that this is a hand made product meaning that basic classic shapesalso
will come out similar, non-classic shapes will vary some throughout the
production run. Extra long shanks like GG75's and 41's are not really an
option as there is too much waste in trying to make these shapes. I can
have the edition numbered at no extra charge if that is interesting to the39.40,
project. Example of numbering with 40 pipes made 01.40, 02.40, .....
40.40.it
If there is interest in a Castello-ASP 2007 Pipe, I can have them made for
early 2007 delivery, basically 2 months after the design and order is
confirmed. I can check into pricing once it is decided if the silver band
will be used and once the shape, size, etc are decided. I understand that
some estimate of price is needed so I'll offer this guideline, with the
understanding that its a basic guess and I'm sure I'll get yelled at when
turns out to be wrong. Carved SR $300 range, Basic smooth $500 range, Highso.
Grade smooth $700 range. Deep cast silver band will add $100+/- and if we
max out the order at say 50 pieces I think the price will go down 10% or
Pricing at this point is a very basic guess. What I would like to do ismax
out the issue size and pressure the distributor to either get the castband
at a reduced rate or to adjust the cost so this issue would sell to ASP
members for say 10-15% less than list, again....I'd like to see that but I
don't know what surcharges will be added at this point (cost of stamps,
etc).
Thoughts?
