That is rediculous!! America has gone Anti-Smoker! We are not popular
in mainstream america anymore. The fad now is Organic and Healthy and
smoking anything is wrong whether or not it is still legal. And more
and more people seem to want to make smoking tobacco illiegal! Fist
they have started by moving smoking out of public places! Dont let
them take away our right to smoke!
Peace and Acceptance!

I've been meaning to share this with you guys for a while and today I
decided to do it. As part of setting up thepipesearch.com, I decided
to display some Google ads to help defray expenses. After signing up,
here's the response I got:
"Thank you for your interest in Google AdSense. Unfortunately, after
reviewing your application, we're unable to accept you into Google
AdSense at this time.
We did not approve your application for the reasons listed below.
- Drugs or drug paraphernalia [...] Google believes strongly in the
freedom of expression and offers broad access to content across the web
without censoring search results. However, Google policy does not
permit the placement of Google ads on sites promoting illicit drugs,
prescription drugs, or drug paraphernalia. We've found that your site
contains content of this nature. Please review our policies
(https://www.google.com/adsense/policies?hl=en_US) for a complete list
of site content not allowed on web pages."
Here was my response:
"Please review my website, http://www.thepipesearch.com again. There
is ABSOLUTELY NO illegal drug material on the site WHATSOEVER. This
site is a site for people who are interested in smoking TOBACCO (still
legal in all 50 states!). None of the items displayed are intended to
be (or really can be used) for illegal drug uses."
Google relented, so I left it there. The galling part is this. This
week I decided to PLACE some Google Ads (that is, pay them money for
the privilege). I got this response:
"Thank you for advertising with Google AdWords. After reviewing your
account, we've found that one or more of your ads or keywords does not
meet our guidelines [...] At this time, Google does not permit websites
that use "Pipes" in their text ads or image ads, or have a significant
portion of site content dedicated to this product(s)."
To put it in the most diginified manner possible, I was well and truly
pissed:
"Your policies with respect to tobacco are deeply distressing to me,
your customer. There is simply no justification for peremptorily
forbidding advertising for a product that is legally available in every
jurisdiction in the civilized world. Nevertheless, this would merely
be a philosophical dispute between us but for the arbitrary way in
which your policy is enforced.
Please review the attached screenshot which I just this moment took
from my website, thepipesearch.com. One Google ad directs the viewer
to a smoking pipe racks site (100% dedicated to tobacco-related
products, in violation of your policy) and the other to a HEAD SHOP.
In case you folks in Mountain View don't know about head shops, that is
a shop where illegal drug paraphernalia is sold.
Either please explain this troubling lacunae to me or approve my ad. I
would so like to give you my money."
So, my question to the group (if you've been nice enough to struggle
down this far) is, has the world gone crazy or is it just me?
