Re: Brebbia vs. Stanwell - what would you choose?

You're not alone here Marty. I also have had the exact same experience with
every Stanwell I've ever owned including the HCA V Collector's Edition I own
now. I wish I could say its just a matter of building up cake but darn it
all, even with cake the darn things smoke hotter than any other pipes I've
owned. Maybe its something to do with the way Stanwell cures their briar -
I don't know. Either way, two things are for sure: 1) I'll never buy
another and 2) Someone will reply to this message saying that I'm crazy and
that Stanwell pipes are great.

That being said, I also have not smoked a Brebbia - but I would choose
anything over a hot smoking pipe so I'd have to say go with the Brebbia on
this one Joao.

Greetings ASP,

Maybe you can help me with this...

I have been looking around the local B&M tobacconists for an apple
shape. I have found a straight stanwell apple and a 1/2 bent brebbia
apple. They both belong to the cheapest line of each brand. Very
affordable, good enough grain, light staining. The price is quite
acceptable, and the difference between them is only 3?. I'm very
inclined to buy the brebbia, but I am afraid I might make the wrong
choice. I can only afford one of these pipes. I have to decide until
next monday. I think they will both be good smokers, but was wondering
if anyone here has had a bad experience with cheap pipes from any of
these brands? Thanks in advance...

Hi Joao:
Every Stanwell I've ever owned, including their best quality pipes
have smoked hot for me. Without exception, including the HansCA, which
I thought would be different, but it proved me wrong. Now, I can, of
course only speak for myself, and I've not smoked a Brebbia to compare.
I just wanted to share my experiences with Stanwells.
Lots of folks swear by them, and perhaps I've been unlucky and have
always chosen the wrong pipe. It's up to you to decide what smokes best
for you, and the only way to do that is to try many different brands.
Good luck.

Regards,
Marty
