Resist the tobacco Taliban

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/healthnews.php?newsid=46058

The US Surgeon General, Richard Carmona, made a strong condemnation
of
secondhand smoke, saying a non-smoker's health is harmed when he/she
breathes in smoke from other people's tobacco. He said that
secondhand
smoke is not just a nuisance, science has clearly shown it is a
serious health hazard.

According to the Surgeon General's 670-page report, The Health
Consequences of Involuntary Exposure to Tobacco Smoke: A Report of
the
Surgeon General, tens of thousands of Americans die each year as a
result of involuntary smoking. Over 126 million people in the USA
are
regularly exposed to passive smoke. He said passive smoking causes
lung cancer, cardiovascular disease and a host of other illnesses.
20%
of American children regularly breathe in secondhand smoke at home.
The report says such children are at a greater risk of suffering
from
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, bronchitis, asthma, pneumonia, ear
infections and other illnesses.

According to Carmona, a non-smoker who is regularly exposed to
secondhand smoke is 30% more likely to develop heart disease or lung
cancer than a non-smoker who is not exposed.

(Involuntary smoking = breathing secondhand smoke = passive smoking)

According to the report, having separate areas for smokers, as well
as
special ventilations systems, do not completely protect non-smokers
from the effects of secondhand smoke. It urges authorities to ban
smoking in buildings and public places.

All true, and the same can be said about vehicle exhaust pollution
and
coal burning power plant pollution.

Absolutely correct HOWEVER. . .

1.) There is significant need for power plants and vehicles -- there
is
no need for tobacco.

True there is a need but on the other hand, there is significant waste.

Oh my, have an alternative in mind?

Yes, quit wasting energy. I can't spell it out any simpler.

Nor can you document and CITE the solutions to this straw man.

How about zero point energy, lol!

You're quite a clown.

Read some Greg Braden, fool.

Looks like you'll believe anything. No Surprise, Typical.

Looks like you aren't keeping up with much at all, reading isn't
believing.

Why was Gene Mallove killed?

2.) While all of those sources produce harmful pollution, there is no
point in compounding the problems with tobacco smoke.

Kind of like extinguishing a candle in a forest fire, don't you think?

Uh no, kind of like not wilfully abusing the lungs of children, heart
patients and asthmatics to quick acting RECREATIONAL cancerous
irritants.

You apparently live in an old age home where the grandkids visit often.

You apparently hate children and the elderly, how intolerant of you,
addict.

Is that what you see in your fantasy world?

No that's wht I see from your sickening opinions.

3.) 90% of the air indoors is recirculated which not only
redistributes
tobacco pollutants but concentrates them as well. While I wouldn't
want
to
(nor will I) stand next to a busy freeway, I'd rather do that than sit
in
a smoky bar for a comparable period of time.

Business owners will not allow smoking if it's not a good business
decision.
Clearly that is the case according to all the studies.

A federal public smoking ban is on the way, live with it.

The whole point of discussion is, "Why are government bans necessary?"

Because addicts like you will sell the young and old down your
addiction path to death!

That's right - I'm turning you in for cash.

You're a low life scumsucking addict.

Colorado Anti Alert!!!!!!

Sorry, lpete. I take that back!!!!!!

Tony
