Re: Update on my health, good news....(and a little rant)

Hi again, George!

It's great to hear that your pressure and glucose are stabilizing. It's tough having to manage and monitor all that. It makes you feel like your whole life is a scientific experiment. It WILL get better and you will get into a routine and become so used to it all that you won't even think about it. It's kinda like getting used to wearing glasses. Awkward at first but after a while you don't even realize they are there.

I would strongly recommend that you get a good blood pressure monitor. I have one called "Lumiscope 1083" and it is a great machine and costs under $100. It measures your BP on your index finger. I've taken mine to the doctor's office to see how accurate it really is and it's spot-on! You can see it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005M06G/103-9535936-4924640?v=glance&n=3760901
Apparently it is not available now, but that page will show you all the newer devices.

If you, or anyone else for that matter, are interested I have a special MS Excel file I wrote to track glucose and BP levels. You just input the date/time and numbers and the scripts do the rest. It charts various trends, calculates differences, etc. I used it a lot when I was first diagnosed to analyze what was and was not working, bad spots, etc. If you'd like I will be happy to e-mail you a copy. I can even customize it to whatever information you want or need.

Well;
I've been off work for almost two weeks now due to this. As some of you
will remember, I posted about this almost two weeks ago. I had gone in
for an employment physical; and had been told that my blood pressure
was 160/120 and my glucose reading was "over 1000"; and was not allowed
to return to work until "they were under control".
Well; I had blood work , and an ekg the very next day. I also started
blood pressure meds the very next day. I have been to the doctor three
times now since this all started. I have an appointment tomorrow at the
blood pressure specialist. I also have an upcoming treadmill test.
I started testing my blood glucose the very next day after being
diagnosed with a level of "over 1000". At no time has it been any
higher than 333 (which is too damn high). I am now a diabetic. A
diabetic with high blood pressure. My normal glucose levels average
about 150-180, still too high. I am now taking pills for my diabetes as
well as my high blood pressure. I saw my doc today and am now cleared
to return to work!!!!!!

BTW....the occupational health doc who told me I was not allowed to go
back to work because he could not "in good conscience allow me to go
back to work" allowed me to walk out his door, get into a car and drive
home, which is about 60 miles away; in that condition. He did not ask
if I had anyone with me, someone who could drive me to my doctor,
nothing........!!!! He just told me to "make an appointment with my
primary care physician" and let me walk out of the door!!!! A real
confidence builder, huh? How would you like to be driving down the
freeway with me along side of you, with extremely high blood pressure
as well as a blood glucose level that was seriously in the "danger
zone"? Anything could have happened!! I could have had a heart attack,
could have had a "diabetic episode" such as going into a diabetic shock
or coma, could have just passed out, anything could have happened at
any time. After doing a little research, I was extremely pissed off. I
almost called and cussed that "doctor" the hell out!!!!!!
O.K. I'm done with my little rant; at least I can go back to work now.
I am getting better. my blood pressure and glucose levels are going
down. I have not had a cigarette in over a week now; unfortunatelly I
have not had a pipe either......
Thanks to all of you who answered my first post concerning this issue.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your well wishes,
support and prayers. It definitely helped to know that there were
people out there who care. Kinda' reafirms my faith in mankind.
