I think the flavor is the process, not the leaves so using the ribs and all
make sense. Also, maybe my scale (or my math) is off. It weighed 700 and
something grams, but it says t weighed 1 pound 9 ounces.

Sounds like another successful method, Max. It's fun to handle the whole
leaves regardless of how, or if, one chooses to cut them. I could smell pure
perique for what seemed like days ! Fun Stuff !

One caveat....mine came whole leaf with ribs. Didn't bother me as I found
it
fun to de-rib and chiffonade but it does take a bit of 'processing'. One
thing's for sure, you'll never have difficulty recognizing perique after
handling Percy's in whole leaf.form !
