A little bit of news (On Topic)

My little bit of news: I went into Emergency at Southlake Hospital
(Newmarket) last Friday with a strange little pain (discomfort?) in the
left side of my chest. They kept me in till Tuesday with non-stop
round-the-clock monitoring and an angiogram. They found some *very*
*minor* restriction not severe enough to have any angioplasty.

The cardiologist thinks the pain may have been reflux or more likely
some gall bladder discomfort. I then remembered that probably twenty
years ago, I had some *severe* gall bladder attack that I "cured"
myself with a serious change of diet rather than submit to "going under
the knife". That was after I had spent nearly a month trying to arrange
an appointment with a real prima donna of a specialist who spent
literally only two hours on two days a week actually condescending to
meet with patients. I finally gave up in disgust trying to visit this
jerk and decided to "treat" myself.

At least, now I know that my ticker is not in too bad a shape. I must
admit though that four and a half days in hospital all wired up with
electrodes (?) can sure scare the hell out of you and make you
re-examine your priorities. However, I suppose all's well that ends
well.

One thing I found very interesting was that it took literally no effort
to do without smoking my pipes. I smoke quite a lot usually, many pipes
all day, every day. I've also always thought that I tend to use my
pipesmoking very much as a nicotine delivery vehicle. Yet, here I was
not missing them for five days. Sure shocked the hell out of me.

I will NOT be quitting pipesmoking, but I will be trying to enjoy them
more like a nice dessert which you don't have to consume after every
meal, more like fine dining than like a bad habit.
