Dripping valve ... thats an easy fix ... even easier than replacing a
leaking faucet.

BTW ... did you think about just calling a plumber? The little he would
charge is nothing in comparison to your aggitation and agrevation over
this whole situation also it would be his job to explain it all to the
deaf MIL.

Next step...

Directions could cost you almost as much as a plumber... ;-)))

BTW ... most drippy valves leak at where the stem goes into the valve
and most valves are made with a nut right there that holds the stem
assembly in the valve. Most old valves leak/drip after being turned
because it loosens the packing and nut just a weee itty bit but if you
now take a wrench and gently tighten that nut a weee itty bit the valve
should stop dripping/leaking.

Now regarding the faucet ... most likely in the center of the
backsplash the installers put a big old globbule of silicone caulk on
the backside/wall when they installed the top. Sometimes the little
dabs on top of the vanity are just not enough to hold the top securley.
When you decide to give it another try and aggitate yourself again be
sure you have cut any caulk lines around the edge of the backsplash
than insert a putty knifer behind the backsplash (either fromt he top
or from underneath) to help slice and dice your way through that glob
of dried silicone.

From this point you do know what to do dont you?

Good luck and ya know sometimes its just better to call an expert ...
they would have been in and out in less than an hour and the project
would have been done already. Sometimes that would be the best $100 a
person could spend just so they dont have to worry about doing it
themselves. Ya know if it was a female plumber doing the work in a
skimpy bikini I bet it would have been worth almost double that price.
