Re: Check out this HUGE array of pipes!

F. Prefect,

That's what I was thinking. It's like owner does not care. Therefore, I
suggested a divorce or dept colleciton. Death, as Corneel says, would be
pretty sad reason, since it probably means that those who inherited do not
care.

Funny thing is that pipes are in reasonably good condition. Rims mostly are
not overturtured, pipes are nice. In different time I would definitely try
to fight for this lot.

Maybe this is some kind of high class fun?

I was always wondering how such collections ended up in eBay. All of a

collection?

Most likely would be that a collector dies, and his family doesn't know
anything about pipes. Or don't care to know much about it. So they sell
the
whole lot at once on eBay.

Money's more fun to inherit, I guess. Or it pays for the funeral.

Just a wild stab in the dark,

Corneel.
Something just doesn't smell right about this whole deal. As Paul
points out, 7.75/pipe, I expect the bidding will go higher, but who
knows? How many people out there are willing to buy a$1350 pig in a
poke if the present owner of this collection is not even willing to
make an accurate count, or take the collection to legitimate collector
for appraisal,? It sure looks like they're either in a big hurry, or
they for some unknown reason, are unwilling to provide a more accurate
description.

I would expect the value of a collection containing 25 Dunhills or Don
Carlos for example, in either good or unsmoked condition, is going to
make an appreciable difference in what a potential buyer is willing to
bid if the 25 turns out to be 24 Grabows and a Dunhill with a broken
shank.

No, they just start the bidding at .99 and say "Have Fun"!!

If that collection is anywhere close to the description, selling the
pipes individually, or in small lots, should bring many times the
current high bid. But I suppose it could be legit, putting the
current owner near the top on the all idiot list.

F. Prefect

Well, if nothing else, it will be fun to watch.
