My daughter, for one, has two small children and she hates to go to work and
leave them at a day care center. She works because she and her husband want
a standard of living that is beyond the ability of his salary to provide.
However. a lot of women who are married to men with low paying jobs work
just to keep the bill collectors away. I bet a lot of women, if they could
afford it, would like to be able to stay at home with the kids. I have no
objection to women that want to work. However unless they can get a good
salary after they figure the extra cost of clothes, travel, etc., the woman
may be working very cheaply. My wife is a nurse and I am a pharmacist.
When our children were little we worked different shifts so that a parent
was at home at all times to watch the kids. Now that is not practical for
all people. I would not have minded having paid leave to look after my kids
but, as you said. it is barely possible for a woman to get off from work
herself on many jobs.
