It was with great sadness that I read here on ASP of the passing of Mr. Tom
Dunn. I have been a member of TUCOPS for 20 to 25 years and of course
receiving copies of TPSE for that period of time. I never did meet Mr. Dunn
but corresponded with him many times over the years. He never failed to
acknowledge my contributions to his "work" and would at times send me small
tokens hanking me for my measly contributions. I will miss him greatly. If
there was one person inthe world that I would have liked to meet, it would
have been Tom. However, I understand that he was a private person and I did
not feel it appropriate to intrude upon his privacy.
Since he has passed away, I feel that something should be done to honor
this great man. Now, I donot remember seeing a clear photo of him but I
gelieve in some of the older TPSEs there were some poor quality photos of
him. My idea , if it is at all possible, is to have him honored in Pipes
and Tobacco magazine with a full page photo, assuming one is available, and
a short biograpical sketch of the gentleman by someone who knew him
personally. Possibly many of us could write Chuck Stanion of P and T asking
if something along these lines could be done. I assume that permission
would have to be obtained from Mr. Dunn's family and other legal matters
worked out as necessary. Since I have no knowledge of the publishing
business, I have no idea what this would entail but I feel this would be an
ideal way to honor a man who brought so much to the world of pipesmoking.
