Quitting smoking wouldn't likely cure your issue. Sounds kind of serious.
But topping for a while sure would help the symptoms.

Your issue sounds like an infection. Pneumonia or bronchitis, or something
of the sort. And if it has caused you to lose that much weight, it sure
sounds serious...

As for dental work, I definitely "feel your pain"... Have had my share of
dental experiences that I'd rather not repeat... ;-)
