Actually, Joe, I *suggested* that Scoop's political rant be moved to a
political area. It was not a discussion, even, it was a rant that was going
to start a very heated, very OT thread (and it did).

To say that I've decided it is my job to tell others what or what not to
post is crazy. I've been posting here a long time and until very recently
have not even suggested that someone mark something OT. What even made me
take notice is that it was the second Bush bashing post in a matter of days.

Best I can tell, you are adamant in positing that "people can post
anything." What's the difference in me suggesting restraint in starting
these threads and you jumping in to tell me that I'm wrong in opposing them?
I'm suggesting that certain posts be refrained from and you're suggesting
that I refrain from posting certain things. It's like a giant circle - see
below.

My blood pressure is fine. It's not like I'm over here pulling my hair out
over ASP. I just remember when people respected the FAQ and, quite frankly,
it was a more civil and more on-topic forum. It was a respite from things
like political arguments, not a source of them.

I've been posting here since the 90's (I have no idea what year) and have
never been one to oppose OT threads until very recently. They've just
gotten so out of hand. To paraphrase Scoop - "What I'm saying needs to be
said." You don't agree and you don't have to. Kinda' like you're free to
start OT threads and I'm free to oppose them....

Lastly (and I think this sums up our differing world view), I have
never heard anyone but you postulate that "the FAQ is damned near
meaningless." I have always viewed the FAQ as the guiding principles that
helped keep this newsgroup so civil and user friendly. I don't expect
anyone to follow the FAQ exactly but to dismiss it entirely seems utterly
narcissistic to me. Who am I to give the finger to the FAQ? It was here
when I showed up and those were the precepts under which I started
participating in ASP. Perhaps I'm just a conformist.

I've now become part of the problem with the OT threads that won't die.
Feel free to contact me back channel if you'd like. I'm not opposed to
discussion or debate - I'm just opposed to inflammatory OT debate that often
polarizes rather than enlightens.

For the record, I will never again suggest anything to anyone about how they
post. If I'm the only one who cares then it's clearly my problem. If
anyone else feels the same way I do then they can take my place on the
soapbox.

And, for the record, I still love you, too, and will gladly share a bowl
with
you sometime and discuss any matter, on topic or not.... :-)

Ed
