My idea: a hybrid system. The poor get universal healthcare. It is
not great but better than nothing.

They already do with Medicaid.

My understanding is that there are millions of Americans with no
health insurance.

Yes. So what? If you don't have health insurance, you have to cover
your own medical expenses. It can wind up bankrupting you. Then whose
fault is it?

You make your own bed, and then you lie in it. If you choose not to
have health insurance, you live with the results.

To spell this out even more, if people go bankrupt due to medical
expenses, which happens to thousands of folks every year, then who pays
for their medical expenses? We do, that's who.

The entire point of a universal system is to get the currently uninsured
to pay their own bills. They won't have a choice if it's a tax. Those
who can show proof of alternative insurance get reimbursed for the cost
of the universal system. This way those who are currently uninsured will
pay a larger share of their medical expenses, so that the amount passed
on to us is smaller.

It seems like you guys equate universal healthcare to some sort of
communist plot to take over America. That is not it at all. It's to get
the poor to pay more. Can you please tell me what is wrong with that? Do
you not want your health insurance premiums to go down, or what?
