I remember once in gym class I forgot my jockstrap. The teacher said:
"Everyone get down and give me 50 -- except you, Miller. you get to
watch them".

In boot camp, one guy was being particularly troublesome and, knowing
that the company commander wasn't allowed to hit him and, during 1st
week, couldn't even give him PT as punishment, refused to do what he
was told.

CC: Drop & give me 20.
Guy: What if I don't?
CC: Drop & give me *40*
Guy: But what if I don't?
CC: Suit yourself. Everyone else drop & give me 60. [Guy], you can
just watch.
Guy: <shrug> Ok...

(Everyone else struggles through 60 pushups. These are civilians in
their 3rd or 4th day of boot-camp...)

CC: On your feet! Company, at ease. I'm going to go get a cup of
coffee. Nobody leave this area. I should be gone for <checks watch>
Oh, about 10 minutes. <wink at rest of company.>

As you can imagine, Guy received a polite and well-reasoned discourse
on how to play nice with others in a civlized society from the other 89
of us. ;^D

Anyone see the flaw in the story?

Sergeants don't wink?

When I was in basic training in Ft Leonardwood, Mo., I got pretty sick for a
couple of days. I was lying in my bunk one Fri. recovering and my platoon
sgt. told me I was to report to the First Sergeant.

When I got there...who was standing there but my wife, who took it on
herself to take the train from Madison to visit me (we were only married a
couple of months before I had to go to basic).

After a pretty good chewing out, much to my surprise, not only did the First
Sgt. give me a two day pass but offerred to let my wife and I stay with him
and his wife at their home if we couldn't afford a motel room.

We passed on that but I never forgot that act of kindness from the guy who
had always seemed like the toughest MF around.

One of his favorite sayings was: "It's all mind over matter,...I don't
mind, and you don't matter."
