Wny not?

Different trees have different rates of CO2; more
importantly, though, closely-planted monoculture plantations
of conifers do not allow for much undergrowth and thereby
reduces the overall CO2 efficiency per acre.  ALl those
bushes, saplings, flowers and grasses also count.

Then there are little tricks like redefining the term to include
private gardens, municipal parks and professional nurseries.

When talking about the planet's tree-cover, gardens & parks should count.

A judgment call, IMHO.  Modern orchards, for instance, look
like nothing so much as a weird vineyard: the trees are so
stunted that talking of "tree cover" is to take the
definition of "tree" very close to the edge.  Also,
researchers have to make all sort of very subjective
decisions that seriously increase the uncertainty over
accuracy: how, for xample, should one classify and calculate
a large backyard with only a couple of trees?  Or potted
trees, popular in urban settings: how do they count?

As one tree per tree. HTH :)
