So basically (I'm asking if I hear you correctly), God defines "a better
person" and, if there is no God, then there's no such thing as a better
person, right?

Yes. We're all just hairless apes feeding our appetites.

Speak for yourself. I've still got my hair. :-þ

I don't, my head is as smooth as a cue ball (well, when I shave it
properly, that is ;))

It seems that my hair has been migrating from my head to my nose and ears.

I don't get to pick my own patron saint? I have to have your sarcastic
guy thrust upon me? Cripes, no wonder nobody likes the Catholics...!

;)

Just a suggestion. If you picked a patron saint for yourself, who would
you pick? It tells a lot about a person.

St Rocco.

Funny, I had never heard of him until tonight when I went looking for
an appropriate saint. Turns out his feast day is my birthday. Cool,
huh?

St. Rocco is cool. I'm kind of a St. Francis guy myself. (I had an
affinity for St Dominic for a while, but I don't think I'm called in
that direction).

I have a small (2 ft) statue of St Francis in my garden. You don't
have to be Catholic to appreciate St Francis. ;-)

Did you know St. Francis is the only saint who is known by his nickname?
His given name was Giovanni. He was the son of a rich merchant, who
traded with France. Giovanni spent so much time in France that they
called him the equivalent of "Frenchy", and the name stuck. :)

Btw, don't remember if I thanked you for your patient responses. I think
you've answered all my questions (and I don't think I have any
outstanding to you), and I've greatly enjoyed our conversation. Looks
like this one's winding down, but I didn't want it to end without
letting you know that it's been much appreciated.

No problem. If I'm ordained Deacon some day, I'm going to have to
develop patience. You're helping me with that. Thanks. :)

Oh, let me help! Please let me help! ;-)

You *have* helped. Now that Paul Cook is on hiatus, You, Ted and my
Schnauzer puppy are the top three (not necessarily in that order). :)

Yay! I'm helpful!

(Alex gets an honorable mention :))

A BIG honourable mention. ;-)
