St. Anthony (patron saint of lost items) needs an entire switchboard
to keep things straight, while St. Dismas ("the good thief") who is
the patron saint of thieves, probably doesn't have a lot of work to do.

Well, he could head over to St. A's switchboard and chime in "oh,
right -- uh... I know where that item is..." <G>

What does it mean, "the patron Saint of thieves"?

No wait, that's not my question. My question is: what is the meaning
of "patron saint." Of anything.

In Monterrey, near the fisherman's warf, there's a statue of St.
SomebodyOrAnother, and the bronze plaque says "patron saint of
Cannery-row fishermen of Irish-Italian descent" which -- EVERY SINGLE
TIME I read it -- makes me think "...because if they included other
cannery-row fishermen, or Irish/Italian fishermen from up the coast or
even the pure Irish fishermen, then it would be too many people for
one Saint to handle, so they had to sub-group them...?!?!", followed
by "So, I wonder who's patron for the Italian-Mexican Cannery Row
fishermen? There had to be at least a few of those..."

(Ooo, that was another change of subject... :)

Ok, I went & wiki-d patron saint. Intro: "A patron saint is a saint who
is regarded as the intercessor and advocate in heaven of a nation,
place, craft, activity, class, clan, family, or person.[1] Patron
saints, because they have already transcended to the metaphysical, are
believed to be able to intercede effectively for the needs of their
special charges."

Is that basically what you mean?

So, why did God appoint (that's how you become a patron saint, right?)
someone to "...intercede effectively for the needs of [thieves]"?!

St. Dismas was the good thief crucified next to Christ. Thought by some
the first human to get to heaven. "Amen I say to you, this day you will
be with me in paradise."

(And why is St. WhatsHisName in Monterrey so specific?!)

St. Mario O'Toole? :)

Tony, trying to talk to Misc about this is worse than talking to your
dog. Misc is a very good friend and we talk about a lot of things, but
religion, his wife, and booze I dont talk about.
