I would tend to agree with you. There are talks between the Lutherans
and Rome. I hear we're getting *really* close. Close enough that we
may be able to take communion in each other's churches soon.

What different denominations of Christianity getting along
together....!?

What's next?

Don't worry. The "Lutherans" who have had discussions with Rome
are the ELCA. We real Lutherans, upon discovering that the ELCA
was having ecumenical talks with Buddhists, would express exactly
zero surprise. A couple years ago there was some noise that
ELCA and Rome has reached some sort of agreement on "Justification."
But the Bishop who'd been involved in that was reined in hard
by the Pope, and a statement was issued saying something to the
effect of "Let's be clear: We didn't mean to say that justification
was anything like what the ELCA's say it is."

Rome and Luther will never be close, unless Rome is willing to
yield on the point of justification. As long as Rome insists
that man must cooperate in his own conversion, Lutherans must
utterly reject the doctrine, and this is THE central doctrine.

So is God a cosmic rapist? Dragging you kicking and screaming into heaven against your will? Is there any way you can go to hell?
