OT Physics of toothpaste

Maybe someone can explain this to me. Why does the first 80% to 90% of
a tube of toothpaste get used up in the first couple weeks, and then
the remaining small percent then lasts for a couple months? I use
roughly the same amount each time.
I don't get it.
