By which you mean "every bit as horribly bad", right?
Wrong.
If Tony were to be diagnosed with end-stage cancer (perish the
thought), I would hate for him to rely only on the guidance of
his parish priest. I would want for him to be able to draw on
the experience and expertise of a panel to give him the
comprehensive information -- medical, ethical, legal,
psychological -- to take decisions and make plans with all the
relevant input.
At the end of my life, the ONLY opinion that matters is that of my parish priest informed by the teaching of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.
But I'm sure you didn't figure that at the end stages of cancer, I would choose the level of pain relief that would leave me the most lucid.
I am *not* afraid to die. I fear a painful end, but that is only because my trust in the Lord is imperfect. Were I girded with faith like Ignatius of Antioch, I would go to my death with a smile on my face.
So don't worry about me costing you precious resources that you could spend on birth control for poor people and abortions when that doesn't work.
