So, let's ignore the imposed-slavery angle of it -- since I doubt

Take a look at Europe. It works there. Most countries with
mandatory military service now permit the kids to opt out and do
their time in "civil service" instead. This usually involves
unskilled labour in the care industry like emptying bed pans in
hospital, giving sponge baths to the old or doing Meals On Wheels
deliveries.
Other countries have mandatory military service? I thought only the US had that.

That aside, taking a look at Europe, have you considered that slavery issue that Ted addressed?

Of course, in Europe, folks are subservient to the state/collective.
