Different yardsticks for different folks for that one, too.

That's the "it's more comlicated than that" part. It turns out there
are entire college degree programs centered around this question. You
can run the same sort of conversation -- with similar answers -- around
"professional poker player" vs "addicted gambler."

I guess it boils down to "it depends"... on the circumstances and
the indivdual. One or two alcoholics I have met were highly
functional at levels of ethanol intake that would floor normal
people.
