Actually, Mrs Misc & I recently (well, a year or two ago, now) discovered the world's greatest sangria-base, which is also perfectly drinkable "table wine": Fairbanks Port, available at your local drug-store for $6.99/magnum.
It's not terribly good port, but GREAT table wine & base for lots of things. We bought it originally as a marinade, and have come to enjoy it as our more-common "popcorn wine."
And it's cheap enough that we once marinaded a whole pig in it <G>.
