By far the worst choice people make is being born into the wrong

This particular shtick is getting tired Paul.

Weird thing is, in some ways he'snot wrong.
For instance, of all the factors influencing the chances of
educaitonal success, two are by far and away the most
important: good teachers .... and the right parents.
Left-wing politicians and parents in Europe hate this
particular fact with a passion because it refutes their idea
that success is possible if you only throw enough resources
at a kid, but the single most important determining factor
of a child's educational achievement is the educational
level of the parents. If mommy and daddy are both college
gradautes, your chances of following in their footsteps are
really rather good, and if your parents were useless HS
dropouts, then chances are you will do the same.

Then how do you account for my grandparents who were Italian immigrants my
grandmother who finished 4th grade, and my grandmother not even that?

Both my mom and my uncle went to college.

Uncle was on the GI Bill, perhaps?

Good chance of it. He was in WWII. Tailgunner in the pacific theater. My mom wasn't, though. My grandmother and grandfather helped pay for her college out of the money they made. He building the D&L railroad, and she first making cigars (Binghamton was the center of cigar manufacture outside of NYC) and then making shoes.

By your accounting I should be an unteachable welfare bum.

<cough> <cough>

I didn't think you had the restraint. ;)

You tell me what the difference is. I'll give you a hint. It starts with
"M" and ends in "tion".

Masturbation?

Actually, "Motivation". But you're a lib. I'll cut you some slack on this one.
