Nobody is trying to force the Catholic Church to marry

is trying to force to state to forbid homosexuals from marrying.
Another one of those problems those of us who believe in freedom
and equality have with established religions.
Sure, as long as the state is involved, the Church will continue to
oppose it. If the state got out of it, they could be as "free and
equal" as they like.

Let me follow this logic: as long as the state has a policy counter
to the Church, you feel it's right for the Church to step in and
dictate policy...even though you are a "less government" type?

Absolutely!

Until we can dismantle the "lynching apparatus", I'm more than happy
to use it to my benefit. That's the second best outcome.

Then, really, you're just a fascist hiding behind the Church rather
than the State. As long as you believe in one Supreme Authority
dictating freedoms rather than responding to the will of the people,
you're a fascist. I'm not being derogatory or nasty, by the way.
That's just the political truth.

And just what in the world is "the will of the people"?
