to the Church, you feel it's right for the Church to step in and

Absolutely!
Until we can dismantle the "lynching apparatus", I'm more than happy
to use it to my benefit. That's the second best outcome.
Then, really, you're just a fascist hiding behind the Church rather
than the State. As long as you believe in one Supreme Authority
dictating freedoms rather than responding to the will of the people,
you're a fascist. I'm not being derogatory or nasty, by the way.
That's just the political truth.
And just what in the world is "the will of the people"?
