There is no "separation of church and state" in the Constitution.

"Congress shall pass no law respecting an establishment of
religion." SOunds so vague, doesn't it?

No, it's very clear. It says Congress is prohibited from
ESTABLISHING a state religion. It says nothing about "separation of
church and state".

That's the free exercise (or rejection) thereof part.

It also says no establishment (at all... ANY), not merely a state
religion.

Well, technically it doesn't say no establishment...just no law regarding establishment.

bernie...nit picking

That COULD range all they way from a single church to making one sect dominant.

How interesting that the Right wanted THEIR displays, but get offended when "competing" sects get theirs put up. Much like a free market exists for the benefit of consumers, it's corporations and politicians/bureaucrats that hate those markets.

I have been a proponent of the atheist veteran who wanted his atheist symbol on his gravestone in a national cemetary. I'm fine with all symbols (well, I draw the line at the Islamic symbol for the flight 43 memorial).

"He that would make his own liberty secure,
must guard even his enemy from oppression;
for if he violates this duty, he establishes
a precedent that will reach to himself." -- Thomas Paine

And we all (hopefully) know Paine's take on Religion.

....when they came for the _____ I didn't speak up because I wasn't a _____.
