I mean, you host pool tourneys and charge for beer, shirts, hats, entry,

It's just good business -- even if it *is* a guy you don't like, much.

Hutch doesn't pretend his events are NOT for the purpose of making a
profit. If you asked him directly, he could probably give you a rough
$/per person figure, too. Or he would tell you that's privileged
business intel and none of your damn business (with a smile)

He wouldn't just pretend he didn't see/hear you like a spineless
little twerp.

And I don't think anyone has a problem with the Ashton's making some
cash for renting out their place.  That is, after all, what they are
in business for.

But if Fermanis is making profit off of running a herf, I would find
that kind of wrong, especially if he puts it forth as a labor of love
rather than a way to make a buck.

JR's does their annual events, and make a killing.  You know walking
in that it is for profit, and that's cool.

When Rob does the WPCC, there is no profit involved.  Sometimes there
is extra cash at the end of the event, but that just goes to supplies
for the next year.  He does it because he loves doing it.

As to this thread, the topic of "OT" posts comes up all the time.  Rex
has stated, numerous times, that the goal was always basically a
virtual cigar lounge.  I know that when I go to the local cigar
lounge, I don't spend 2 hours talking about cigars.  Why should this
virtual lounge be any different?

If I had my wish, I would host C.C.C.C.C. for free. Regrettably, that
is not financially feasible for me or Mike. Neither of us has ever
pocketed a DIME of profit from C.C.C.C.C. All the money we collect
(and more) goes back into the event. Suggesting otherwise is incorrect
and the implication is both insulting and hurtful. There are no kick-
backs from restaurants or lodging. Every donation we receive is given
away in the door prize raffle. In addition to the main crawfish boil/
herf, Mike and I organize five days of "official" C.C.C.C.C.
activities, three restaurant dinners, one restaurant brunch, a crawl,
and several other side events. Some of these events are subsidized out
of my own pocket to keep the cost as low as possible. In addition, we
have never turned away anyone who wished to attend but could not pay.
If you have any questions about CCCCC finances, please direct them to
me. I handle all the money, not MLF. If he has become the promoter of
the event here on ASC, it is mainly because I rarely have time to
participate here like I used to. MLF does an excellent job of
recording our expenses and money collected, which is why I KNOW you
are dead wrong when you say that C.C.C.C.C. is a for-profit event.

As for my B&B business, the event is always scheduled in the Spring
(March or April) because this is when crawfish are in-season. It is
also one of the busiest times of the year for New Orleans' tourism
industry. This is not "slow season" and I do NOT need to host this
event to fill my B&B rooms. I would EASILY be sold-out on that weekend
if I did not host the event. In fact, I am losing more money since
everyone who stays with me for C.C.C.C.C. receives a steep discount. I
charge barely enough on my rooms to pay my staff and cover fixed
costs.

I have never profited financially from C.C.C.C.C. attendees and I
never will. Though it is a tremendous amount of work, I consider it a
privilege and and honor to host CCCCC. The friendships and fond
memories that have sprung from it are some that I will treasure all my
life.
