That's the whole "France lost an entire generation of men" thing. Some
attribute the free sexual attitudes of French women to the fact that
there were about a bazillion of them and about 3 men, at the time. (I
don't know enough of France's sexual-attitudes history to know if this
is apocraphal or not.)
