It is absolutely wrong to take what is not yours. Period.

If Hutch has a heart attack and I need your car to drive him
to hospital, I will take your car and feel good about it.
If I am in New Orleans when the levees break again and I
need Hutch's boat to save people from dorwning, I will
happily take his boat and not bother to ask his permission
first. And if some idiot feeds me an oyster and I go into
anaphylactic shock, I sure hope someone will steal an epipen
from the nearest pharmacy to save my life. Life trumps
property.

Which part of "thou shalt not steal" did you not understand? If God, in
his omniscience didn't think it important to mention "...unless it might
help someone who might be in danger of dying", who the hell are you to
start stealing?!

Here's the thing about Life vs Stealing and "trump"ing: your advice to
our children is a good way to get their chests filled with buckshot.
Then you'll have TWO dead people.

If Hutch is having a heart attack, you don't need Mickey's car to get
him to the hospital. Learn CPR. Carry him piggy back. Hail a cab.
Hell, do all three! ;)

No offense, Hutch <G>.

Actually, since Mickey's car (and keys) are less likely to be available,
a more likely scenario would be to "borrow" HUTCH'S car. "Hey, Hutch,
I'm going to use your car to take you to the hospital, ok?" (This
exchange can take place simultaneous with dragging his ass into the back
seat.) "Just lie there and drool if that's ok with you. Ok, good. Now,
I'm going to fish in your pockets for your keys - -it's not personal,
ok...?" <G>

The boat-stealing incident was, of course, highly controversial. I'm
not sure how it turned out but, were I the judge on the case, I probably
would've done something like this:

* For heroic effort saving others: a commendation.
* For stealing the boat: standard sentencing, suspended, in light of
heroic effort & lives saved.
* For LOSING THE DAMNED BOAT: ordered to pay restitution to the original
owner for replacement boat of similar type and value.
* To the boat owner: Yeah, yeah, we've all heard it a zillion times.
He's gonna buy you a new boat, now shut up, already!

Epipen... Is that a pill? Or a special medical "pen" with which I give
you an emergency tracheotomy, Boy Scout style? While you're on the
floor anaphylacting, you'd better hope I learn the difference between
now & then, cuz I may be tempted to steal the nearest thing that looks
about right and "give it a go."

Still think it's a good idea...? ;)

Oh, wait. Mrs. Misc tells me that an Epipen is a device used to remove
hair from a woman's bikini line. Ok, if you go into anaphylactic shock
in my presence, I promise to steal one of those and use it on you, later
explaining to the police "I was trying to save his life; it's what he
*wanted* me to do! [with citations!]", then I will face whatever
consequences for stealing arise from that action.

8^D

Misc "aw, heck, I'll just pay for it. If I'm going to be around you, I
might just buy one in preparation. And an oyster <G>"
