Sure it is. But look at the discussion you've been having with Bart (and I've been trying to stay out of it as much as I can). Do you think it's productive to put a Bible (even a really good translation) into the hands of the unitiated and say: "Go for it, and good luck with that"?

Well, not if they've been trained from birth that they're incompetent to figure it out, and only A Holy Man can do that for them... <G>

But the *REST* of us don't have any problem with it! ;)

Ok, Your buddy has appendicitis, and you have a surgical manual... :)

Bah! Do you think the first appendectomy was done with a manual?

Nope. It was trial and error and probably a lot of people died. Giving the common man a Bible (and I count myself as "common") to do theology, is like giving them a surgical manual to do surgery when they've never picked up a knife in their life.

You mentioned that before. I must watch only the Liberal-bent media, or some such, because I always got a sense that they had a soft spot for The Church, and especially The Pope.

I don't know. Are you just reading Ossivatore Romano? :) (I might have gotten the spelling wrong).

Oh, I thought you meant "the press" as TV & Newspapers.

No. The press I see really dislikes the "authoritarian" pope who regularly makes capricious rules for people who only want to have a good time.

Well, come *ON*! They *are* in the business of selling soap, you know! That's not "hatred of The Church", that's just "Good Business"!

So twisting a story so it is not only unrocognizable, but an outright falsehood is "good business"? Ok, I'll buy that. After all, it's the organization whose motto is: "If is bleeds, it leads".

Right. This surprises you? Just because they're a bunch of amoral lying sacks of *** doesn't mean they hate the RCC... :)

Hey, Mother Teresa got a pretty good review!

So it's only Mammon that's the problem. Mother Teresa got a pretty good review but Princess Diana got better :)

I'm getting that now. Are you saying that unrestricted capitalism is not a good thing? ;)

Not me. I'd never say such a thing :)

Me neither. :)
