As sick as you were why didn't you call an ambulance or fire/rescue.
that just sounds nuts.

Costs too much here and the ride sucks. For the same money I could have
got a limo with booze and a call girl and I would have been treated
better.
A 3 mile ambulance ride I know to be about $5,000.00. A limo for an
hour would be about 200.00 for the first hour and 100.00 for every hour
after that.

Been a while since I was in an ambulance (15 years, after an accident),
but the total bill was $200.00. The ride was about 10 miles. If it's
$5k now, I'd be absolutely shocked...

I googled ambulance fees and I can't find anything near 5k.
The rates vary, depending on location, from $250 to $900 plus mileage with
one reference to a bill for $1575.

First gas, then milk, now ambulances.

The city is raising the cost of an ambulance ride - with transports for
the most critical patients going up to $850 per ride - as part of Mayor
Bloomberg's orders to slash costs to raise revenue and plug future budget
holes.

Basic Life Support rides will increase to $515 from $475; Advanced Life
Support will jump to $750 from $600 and Advanced Life Support for the most
critical patients will go up to $850 from $700, FDNY Commissioner Nicholas
Scoppetta told a City Council Public Safety Committee hearing Monday.

My now deceased friend used to get what they called "balance billing"
attempts. That is when a provider attempts to recover the balance between
what they want and what the HMO paid. She was billed 5,000 for an ambulance
ride of 3 miles when she had to call the paramedics in the middle of the
night when she could not breathe due to CHF. She refused to pay the bill,
but they wanted 5K.
