All rights are derived from a basic position: for the
religious, it is the ultimate authority of deity X, for the
agnostic it lies in the nature of man.

Listening to a non-religious person talk about religion is
a bit like listening to a non-smoker talk about cigars.
You end up with review of the cellophane.

My Deity (and He's the most popular One on earth) never
said anything about "rights", that I can think of (and I'm
pretty good at thinking of these things.) In Christianity,
life on earth is _supposed_ to suck. Rights on an ephemeral
earth mean nothing in the bigger picture.

"Existence is suffering." ;-)

Looking at the decalogue, one could derive rights from the
commandments. An injunction not to commit murder may, in
reverse, be deemed a right to life.

This is just another way of looking at rights from the
other direction, which is "obligations". Do might
rights obligate you? Mickey's definition says "no."

B.

Mickey says "no", too. This is illustrated by the old aphorism "You
have a right to free speech, but you do not have a right to an
audience."

I can type until I'm blue in the fingers, as is my right. Not one
single solitary human being on the face of the Earth is obligated to
read my drivel.
