Speaking of "Remember When", I was cleaning out some old computer files and
ran accross this account of a trip to Pittsburgh circa 1997 with a visit to
Cigarbaron & Wineboss...thought it might fit in here.
Tom Lindsay and I had occasion to be in Pittsburgh last week.
We went right from the airport to Wineboss's office . He greeted us with a
smile and a cigar (both appreciated)
We had a little time to kill before meeting CigarBaron at his office, so we
went and checked into our motel.
We returned to Wineboss's office and went to CigarBaron's office (which is
only a few blocks away)
We convoyed to Cigarbaron's new home (on a golf course- well, just off one
actually). He gave us a tour of the house, and especially his walk-in wine
cellar and humidor. He had prepared some "mooch care packages" for Tom and
I J.
We enjoyed some wine , a cigar, and some conversation with Marc, Matt,
Melissa, and Paulette.
Since Marc (Cigarbaron) had to leave for New York the next day, his wife
dutifully stayed behind to prepare for the trip while we, Marc, Matt, &
Paulette (the lovely Mrs Wineboss) left for Mortons for a great dinner and
some good cigars.
Marc brought along a great old Madeira (I think it's the first time I've
drank something older than I-which is really saying something).
Tuesday we met Wineboss at Poor Richards where he "moonlights" part time
(either to feed his struggling family or to buy exorbitant expensive cigars,
humidors, and other cigar accessories- I forget which).
After scouring the store for the finest smokes we adjourned across the
street to the Gandy Dancer bar for- guess what--? Cigars, drinks, and
conversation.
Thursday Tom & I had some time before our flight so we drove up to Cigar
Express. Tom had set up an "appointment" so we got the royal tour from
Laurie. Rob was busy starting up yet another new business so we didn't get
a chance to meet him.
Great place with a great selection of cigars at some of the lowest prices
around.
I bought a few Opus Xs, two boxes of Puros Indios, and a box of Padron
3000-all cigars I have difficulty locating in my area.
This was Tom's first trip to Pittsburgh and he very surprised at what a
beautiful city and area it is. The leaves were just about at peak color and
the drive to and from Cigar Express through the "rolling hills of Western
Pa." was very scenic.
Also a customer of ours whom we visited (we actually did work)- is a member
of Oakmont Country Club and gave us a tour. Talk about "reeking of
tradition"-home of three (I think) US Opens.
All in all, a very nice trip. Always good to enjoy cigars with our friends
from other places. The hospitality shown by CigarBaron , Wineboss, and
spouses was outstanding. I only hope we get the chance to reciprocate.
