The US lays claim to an outpost, there. It's not clear whether or not
it's actually considered "American Soil", though, nor whether or not
anyone has challenged us for ownership.
Actually, the Antarctic Treaty System states that no country can make any
claim to land there. It also says that treaty states have free access to all
the land, buildings, and equipment on the continent. Therefore, neither the
USA nor any other country owns land there and so none is "American soil".
However, persons there are under the legal jurisdiction of their home
states.
The big question, of course, is whether or not FedEx will deliver... :)
FedEx does deliver there under special arrangements, but not in person.
Things are shipped through third party companies. However, given that US
citizens there must abide by their home country's laws, it would be illegal
to get shipments of Cuban products there. In addition, it would also be
illegal for US citizens to snowshoe next door and get some from a researcher
from another country.
