For cigar enthusiasts, a humidor is an essential piece of equipment in
which to store the cigars. Cigar humidors are basically containers
that are airtight and keep a level temperature and humidity level;
they range in size from small enough to hold to commercial-grade, room-
sized walk-ins.
To start, a level temperature is essential to preserving cigars.
Cigar humidors keep a temperature that is as close as possible to the
natural climate of tropical areas where the tobacco leaves grow and
are harvested. The tobacco must be kept stable lest it become too dry
from too much cold. A perfect temperature is around seventy degrees
Fahrenheit.
By the same token, the humidity levels are also regulated by cigar
humidors. Once again, tobacco leaves need to be kept in an
environment that closely mimics their original clime. An optimal
humidity level is close to that of the tropics, or around seventy or
eighty percent. This keeps the leaves from drying out and rendering
the cigar unsmokable and stale.
By maintaining a stable temperature and humidity, the tobacco not only
stays fresh, but it also prevents a tobacco beetle-whose larvae live
dormant in leaves-from taking over the cigars and destroying them.
You see, a cigar humidor keeps out the dry and the cold, and it also
prevents the too-hot and too-humid conditions that these beetles
thrive in.
Now, no matter which size cigar humidors you are looking at, you need
to know that all are not created equal. Some come equipped with a
humidifier, some don't. Some humidification systems use water, while
others take special solutions. There are actually quite a few things
to consider.
One of the most important considerations to make in choosing among
cigar humidors is what type of wood is used to line the inside. It is
widely known that certain woods will alter the taste and smell of the
cigars over time. For this reason it is important to only go with
cigar humidors that use Spanish cedar wood, because this does nothing
to compromise the taste and quality of the cigars.
Overall, cigar humidors are the only reasonable place to store your
cigars. If you want to preserve the freshness, the taste, and the
overall quality, you must use appropriate storage methods. Whether
you go with an armoire-sized behemoth or a small, decorative unit for
your den, know that your cigars are safe and sound in the tropical
oasis you've provided.

prices, and a great home business idea to boot.
