She did not have to die. The hospital just chose to let her die.

"Chose" might be too strong a word Paul. If the story is true, a
horrible error occurred. I doubt any real health care worker would
want that to happen.

Error? It was policy. She received 1, ONE, visit with a doctor who
prescribed a pain killer and did nothing else. Their policy was that is all
you get.

So sad to read. I can't believe these things happen. I doubt it
would happen at my community hospital (no students, residents, etc.)
Sometimes training hospitals (I don't know if the above happened at a
training hospital) can have some nightmares (as can all hospitals.)
But I know that when I'm on call for "unassigned" patients, those who
show up with no physician, insurance, travelers, etc. Get the same
care as if a sultan appeared. Just the way we do things in private
practice I guess. Again, Paul, I'm not doubting the story just
commenting on how incredible it seems to me with 25 years in clinical
practice.
