This isn't "some things". I don't care that the Gospels do
not give a
verbatim record of his chitchat with the waiter. These are
the very last
words of the Messiah. Is it too much to expect the
witnesses to remember
what he said as he died for our sins?

FWIW, the story is told that, in these dangerous times, many of the
followers were nervous about just hanging around, taking notes. If
there were armed guards poking the guy with a pointy stick, the apostles
were probably a good distance away, trying not to be next.

Not saying that proves anything -- just suggesting that they might be
excused for not being up-close & personal for the executed's last words.
