Hello, all. My son's humidor has a rectanglular humidifying device
that, in a perfect world, affixes to the inside lid of the humidor via
a comination of sticky tape and magnets and stays affixed until the
hand of man or God intervenes. This ain't no perfect world, brothers
and sisters, as the sticky tape portion of the program, the portion
that actually makes contact with the cedar, is not holding up its end
of the bargain.
He already had the humidor in operation when he attempted to add this
device (it came with a substitute humidifier as this one, allegedly a
better one, was back-ordered when it was purchased at Christmas) My
guess is that the humidor needs to be left open to dry before
attempting anything. Is that so? Would a judicious dollop of super
glue fit the bill or would that have negative consequences, taste-
wise? Velcro?
I had this problem myself. Perhaps someone else will come up with a better
solution, but in my case, superglue was not a satisfactory answer. I tried
it three times, and every time the humidifying brick would detach and land
on my cigars after a few months. The only method that did work was to screw
a pair of small brackets into the lid.
My preferred alternative these days is to use humidifying units which sit on
a tray or at the bottom of the humidor. There is no risk of detaching from
its mount, nor will a freshly filled unit drip water onto the cigars.
