Sure it is.

The only real difference is semantics.

No, Bernie, they're really not. At least in Texas. And, IIRC,
California is the same way.

Here, unemployment insurance is actually insurance, paid for by your
employer (employee may be forced to kick in for the "premiums", too. I
can't recall).

Nope

When you become unemployed, you apply for benefits. You
may be denied, if you quit, or were fired for certain reasons.

If you're not declined, you get checks until your "policy" is
exhausted. Then you're on your own.

Technically, unemployment pays you back with your own money. Welfare
does not. Unemployment insurance is a safety net you build yourself,
albeit at "gunpoint".

Incorrect.....unemployment pays you money that your employer paid into
a fund for you and all of his employees. Unemployment insurance is a
safety net, built by the government, which the employer contributes to
"at gunpoint". None of the money ever belonged to the employee, and
they make no contribution to the account.

I stand corrected about employee contributions. The rest is true,
however. It is limited, and it can be denied.

Social Security Disability is another matter....employer and employee
contribute equally.
